Introduction
Carlos Beltran-Gonzalez is a researcher working in the area of autonomous systems,
humanoid robots, robotic grasping, artificial and multimodal perception. He received the
Diploma and the BSc degrees both in Computer Engineering from the University of Valencia
in 1998 and from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1996, respectively. He, moreover,
holds a PhD in Electronics and Computer Science from the University of Genova (2005)
During 2005-2007 he was a Post-Doc Fellow at the Laboratory of Integrated Advanced
Robotics (LIRA-Lab), DIST, University of Genoa, Italy. Dr. Carlos Beltran-Gonzalez has
participated, with different levels of responsibility, in many successful and ongoing European
funded research projects, namely, RESCUER (FP6-IST-2003-511492), CogVis (IST-2000-
29375), ADAPT (IST-2001-37173), Neurobotics (FP6-IST-001917), Narval (Esprit LTR
Project-30185), Virgo (TMR Vision-Based Robot Navigation Research Network), RobVision
(Esprit project 28867), SMART II (FMRX-CT96-52) and SERTI (Southern European Road
Telematics Implementation). He is often requested as reviewer in scientific journals and
international conferences.
